The Royal Commission held a public hearing in Melbourne from Monday 18 August to Tuesday 26 August 2014.

The hearing was held at the County Court of Victoria, 250 William Street, Melbourne 3000.

The scope and purpose of the public hearing is to inquire into:

1. The principles, practices and procedures of the Melbourne Response adopted by the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne and their application in responding to:
      a. Victims of child sexual abuse; and
      b. Allegations of child sexual abuse against personnel of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.
2. The experience of people who have engaged in the Melbourne Response process, or otherwise sought redress from the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.
3. Any other related matters.

Any person or institution who believes that they have a direct and substantial interest in the scope and purpose of the public hearing is invited to lodge a written application for leave to appear at the public hearing by 4 August 2014.
