Listen and give us a say: Children and young people’s views about safety in institutions

On Friday 28 October 2016, the Royal Commission hosted a research symposium sharing the findings from three research reports commissioned and published by the Royal Commission on children and young people’s views of safety in institutions.

Researchers interviewed or surveyed over 1,400 children and young people, including those with a disability, about the safety issues they face in institutional contexts and how these can be addressed.

Professor Morag McArthur and Dr Tim Moore, Institute of Child Protection Studies, Australian Catholic University, along with Dr Sally Robinson, Centre for Children and Young People, Southern Cross University presented the research and their key findings, which was followed by a panel of children and young people discussing these findings and how they feel safe in institutions.
