The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse arrived in Geraldton this week to meet with community groups and service providers in the region.

Royal Commission community engagement officers are holding informal meetings with counselling and sexual assault service providers, health practitioners and other interested parties until Friday.

Royal Commission CEO Janette Dines said the visit provides an opportunity to share information about the work of the Royal Commission and encourage survivors of institutional child sexual abuse who wish to tell their story to the Royal Commission to come forward.

“Community groups and service providers play an important role in supporting people to engage with the Royal Commission,” Ms Dines said.

“We strongly encourage all survivors who wish to share their story, particularly in a private session with a Commissioner, to register their interest with the Royal Commission.

“All survivors will be given the opportunity to tell their story to the Royal Commission, including those living in regional Australia.”

The Geraldton visit builds on previous community engagement in the region, including a public forum held last year.
