Case Study 41: Disability service providers
The Royal Commission held a public hearing in Sydney from Monday 11 to Friday 22 July 2016.
The public hearing inquired into responses of disability service providers to allegations of child sexual abuse.
The scope and purpose of the public hearing was to inquire into:
- The experiences of a woman who was sexually abused as a child at Mater Dei School located in Camden, NSW.
- The response of Mater Dei School and the Congregation of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan of the Order of Saint Benedict to those allegations of child sexual abuse.
- The experiences of women who were sexually abused as children while in the care of the Gold Coast Family Support Group (now FSG Australia).
- The response of the Gold Coast Family Support Group to those allegations of child sexual abuse.
- The experience of a man who was sexually abused as a child while in the care of The Disability Trust.
- The response of The Disability Trust and Interchange Shoalhaven to those allegations of child sexual abuse.
- Current systems, policies, procedures and practices for preventing, receiving, investigating and responding to allegations of child sexual abuse within institutions providing services to children with disability.
- The NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework under the National Disability Insurance Scheme, in relation to preventing and responding to allegations of child sexual abuse.
- Any related matters.
